Robert is an actor, musician, writer and improviser. He is a founding member of comedy improvisation groups Improv Wolves and Noteworthy: The Made-up Musical, has recently written and directed his first short film and is a Birmingham Rep Theatre Foundry Artist.
He played one of the leads in independent feature film Sam and Dan Get Lost which won Best Feature at the Midland Movie Awards and also features Robert’s music as the score.
As a musician he has toured extensively and released four albums. His most recent album Homeworking was described by Fatea Magazine as “one of the best, and certainly most enjoyable albums of the year.”
Robert is also the host of The Robert Lane Creative Careers Podcast where he chats to creatives including musicians, songwriters, actors, writers, comedians and journalists about their careers and how they create their work.
Robert facilitates workshops on topics including songwriting and comedy improvisation, provides regular music and drama sessions for Midland Mencap and as part of his Rep Theatre Foundry programme delivered a 12 week co-creation project with a community group, culminating with a performance at Birmingham Rep.
